SFCC provides a sizeable number of activities for members and friends of SFCC members. Monthly meetings are a great opportunity to socialize but the real Corvette fun involves driving events. Here is a list of what you have to look forward to in 2018. This is the one best way to get to know fellow club members and as always an opportunity to invite possible new club members to sample an activity other than a meeting.
March 24. Car Collection Tour & dinner in small groups: Depart Dawley theater parking lot at 1:30 and drive to Jim Dean’s car collection at Sioux Center, IA. Jim’s 60 car collection includes: Duntov Award 55 Vette, Shelby Cobra, 54 Kaiser Darrin (the other fiberglass car with doors that slide into the front fenders), Pantera plus 40 muscle cars. The tour starts at 3:00 followed by dinner in small groups in Hudson, Canton, Larchwood, or Sioux Falls. ( I couldn’t find a spot that can accommodate our group on a Saturday evening.) This one will most likely be a SUV trip. Jim’s collection opens to friends and charitable fund raisers, so there will be a $5.00 per person charge which will be donated to the Children’s Inn, the Sioux Falls Corvette Club’s charity.
April 28. Speedway Motors Museum in Lincoln NE. Leave Sioux Falls @ 8:00 am. Lunch will be served at the Museum. Tour runs from 1-3. Largest collection of Vintage Race car and engines in the US. Former SFCC member Tim Matthews is the curator of Speedway Museum which includes 150,000 square feet of displays. A 53 Vette, a Tucker, Peddle cars, lunch box collection, gas powered slot race cars, sprint cars, drag cars, NASCAR, Bonneville salt flat car, and 600 vintage engines. Go to www.museumofamericaspeed.com to see more. We are working on planning a dinner at a unique Micro-Brewery located at Robber’s Cave which local folklore says was used by bank robbers back in the day. It later became a popular destination for “keg parties”. Admission is $10/person, plus the pizza that I will order after I have a headcount.
May 19. Spring Rally & Car Show at Papik Motors in Luverne. (See the brochure elsewhere in the chips). Pre registration is recommended. It’s a free show and includes a free burger and it is followed by a cruise around the Luverne area or you may choose to tour the excellent War Museum located in the old court house. Luverne is also home to two great restaurants, The Sterling and The Bluestem (formerly Magnolia Steak House.) Call 800-634-7701 or go to www.facebook/papikmotors to pre-register.
June ?????. Drive & Dine on Nordstrom’s Dime. Art & Marie have invited the SFCC to tour their newly re-modeled auto recycling center near Garretson which will be followed by a free catered meal. I took a quick tour recently and still can’t believe how advanced the auto recycle business has become. We’ll get more details later so keep your schedule flexible.
July: No Drive & Dine due to BHCC activities.
August 14 and Sept 11; TBD Depart Sioux Falls at 6, drive about 50 miles, socialize, tell stories, dine with friends and drive home.
